Teamwork makes the Dream Work

2022 was a year full of ups and downs. Halfway through the fiscal year we (Logos Services, LLC) were looking at a 12% drop as compared to the year before. This made all of us take a good look at what was working and what was not working. Although our deep dive was warranted, in the end, we discovered the two biggest issues were the two we already knew we had going into Q3.

The first big obstacle was hiring. The employment game is almost polar opposite than it was just a few years ago. Although there are a plethora of reasons for the change, they all boil down to people wanting to work as little as possible and make as much as possible. I understand the philosophy but it does put small-ish companies in a very difficult situation. After much introspection we decided to officially bring on a “Recruiter” to handle the initial hiring process. She was able to handle the mundane details that are ever so important but so tedious that most of us would ignore them. We also decided, as a team, that our compensation package was a strong package but it had not been put together in a way that would attract the best talent. After re-working how we would present the benefits package and with a more streamlined hiring process we have been able to extend several offers during the Fall of 2022 that have greatly impacted our bottom line in a healthy manner.

The second obstacle was taking a long over due look at our existing talent. We found that the vast majority of our team was amazing. However, as with any team, there were some that were simply not performing up to the level needed. We were able to come alongside them and find creative avenues to help them succeed. A few were able to get back on the tracks and a few simply did not want to follow suit and are no longer current team members of Logos.

As of the end of November 2022 Logos Services, LLC is under 2% loss for the year as compared to the previous year. In fact, we had our best November ever in the history of Logos thanks to recruiting good talent and trimming talent when needed. There are still areas of growth but we are doing our best to end the year on a positive note.

So what does this have to do with Franchising. Franchisees are all business owners and what one discovers can often be helpful to all. My personal take aways from 2022 are:

1) Never stop attracting new talent. Even if you’re not currently hiring it is always helpful to keep your eyes open.

2) Always try to help motivate and grow your existing team. They are invaluable in the growth of the company over all. It’s important to never see yourself as “better” than anyone else but to help them reach their goals, both personally and professionally. However, when the goals simply don’t match up it is sometimes necessary to allow them to find success elsewhere. That’s not a bad thing, sometimes you have to cut away some of the dead branches in order to allow the tree to really blossom.

3) Finally, I discovered that although the world of mental health is changing, the business of helping people is still as strong as ever. AND, Logos is a strong and consistent competitor in the market as we have weathered through one of the worst times in current world history and have come out stronger and more agile.

I am so excited about the future of mental health care and the future of Logos. We are going to do great things together!
